Maillard se pregunta: ¿qué fuimos a buscar a India los occidentales? Este coloquio busca desentrañar y conectar las profundidades del sabor y significado, utilizando el chai como puente hacia el universo literario y filosófico de Maillard, y viceversa. El coloquio se centra, especialmente, en los “Diarios Indios (1992-1999)” y en “Rasa. El placer de la representación”, ambos recopilados por la editorial Pre-textos en India (2014). En un fuerte cuestionamiento de las perspectivas orientalistas, analizamos las representaciones que nos hacemos de los otros con el apoyo de nociones de autenticidad, intimidad y alteridad. Con este marco, surge un debate sobre cómo la escritura y el chai pueden, quizá, facilitar el encuentro.

Maillard asks: what did we Westerners go looking for in India? This colloquium seeks to unravel and connect the depths of taste and meaning, using chai as a bridge to Maillard’s literary and philosophical universe, and vice versa. The colloquium focuses especially on the “Indian Diaries (1992-1999)” and “Rasa: The Pleasure of Representation,” both compiled by the Pre-textos publishing house in India (2014). In a robust questioning of orientalist perspectives, we analyze the representations we make of others through notions of aesthetic pleasure, intimacy and otherness. Within this framework, a debate arises on how writing and chai might, perhaps, facilitate the encounter.
